In 2022, the VII. Contemporary Accounting Issues Workshop, organized with contributions from Başkent University and MÖDAV, brought together prominent figures from the accounting and auditing world. The workshop addressed innovations, standards, and critical topics shaping the future of accounting and auditing. Environmental issues, such as sustainability and carbon footprint reporting, were particularly emphasized during the event.

As part of the workshop, Murat Hekim, Chairman of the Board of IQ Denetim and one of the founders of the Digital Transformation and Sustainability Association, delivered a presentation titled “Auditing Carbon Data under Reporting and Assurance Standards.” In his presentation, Hekim highlighted the strategic importance of reporting carbon data for businesses and explained how assurance audits should be conducted to ensure the accuracy and transparency of this data. He also provided detailed insights into the processes of carbon reporting in compliance with national and international auditing standards.

Hekim’s presentation further explored the impact of carbon footprint reporting on companies’ financial and operational strategies, as well as the opportunities and challenges posed by environmentally focused policies like the European Green Deal. This presentation, which garnered significant interest from attendees, served as a valuable resource for professionals and academics in the auditing sector.
